European climate plan: carbon and kerosene taxes on the programme
In order to implement the Green Pact voted in December 2019, on 14 July the European Commission presented 12 proposals for directives grouped under the name «Fit for 55» with reference to the 2030 target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Europe by 55%.

This tax, gradually increased over ten years, should save private jets and cargo aircraft. At the same time, Brussels should strengthen the targets for the use of sustainable fuels in aviation.
The EU also wants to expand the current European carbon market (ETS), where companies in certain sectors can buy or trade greenhouse gas emission quotas to which they are subject. This systemshould be extended from 2023 to maritime transport for the largest vessels(freight or cruise) to or from the EU. A second carbon market should be created forroad transportand heating of buildings.
