EU / UK: Brexit bill, new subject of discord
After the fishery or the Northern Irish Protocol (cf.EU / United Kingdom: tensions over the Northern Ireland Protocol), a new subject of mistrust between Brussels and London: « Brexit bill », an amount intended to fund the accounts of the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union.
In its Budget Report 2020, the European Commission calculated that the UK's net debt amounted toEUR 47.5 billion. For London, which expected between 40.9 and 45.5 billion euros, the bill is considered too salty! Brussels, for its part, considers that the regulation of this addition is a legal obligation and hopes that afirst payment of €6.8 billion this yearand the remainder spread over several years.
