EU: new regulations impacting customs codes for chemicals
Customs codes for certain chemicals and pesticides could be amended in the coming months. A new regulation* Just released. It amends Regulation (EU) No 649/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 (the said PIC Regulation) « Prior Informed Consent ») concerning theexports and imports of hazardous chemicalsand implementing the Rotterdam Convention within the European Union. Entered into force 1andMarch 2014, this Regulation imposes obligations on companies wishing to export these chemicals to countries outside the EU. Its objective is to encourage shared responsibility and cooperation in the international trade in hazardous chemicals, and to protect human health and the environment.
From 1andnext July,certain customs codes should be affectedby the new Regulation and could berestricted or notifiedand export. In practical terms, this will lead toapplication of new additional codesto be carried over into the customs tariff at the level of the customs nomenclatures concerned.
