EU/Moldova: new mutual recognition agreement to improve trade flows
Thanks to a new pact which entered into force on 1 November, the European Union and the Republic of Moldova mutually recognise their programmes. « SAFE » (Security of the international supply chain).
A Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) has just been signed between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. Implemented since 1stand November 2022, this bilateral agreement, which implies mutual recognition of the programme « SAFE » Named « Approved Economic Operators » (OAS) on Community territory, will facilitate trade between European and Moldovan companies. Brussels and Chisinau will therefore offer reciprocal advantages to their respective certified economic operators, such as reduced security controls or priority treatment supply chain.
This agreement will strengthen existing trade relations between the EU and Moldova. Both parties had already concluded an association agreement signed in June 2014 and implemented in July 2016, including free trade areas. « thorough and comprehensive ». Moreover, in June 2022, the European Council officially granted Moldova the status of candidate country for EU membership (cf. EU: green light for Ukraine and Moldova).
The European Union is Moldova's largest trading partner, with 52.2% of total trade. In 2021, EU exports to Moldova amounted to €3.8 billion.
