United Kingdom / US: Trade negotiations resume
Negotiations for a trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States resumed on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 April in Scotland and London (cf.United Kingdom / USA: Free Trade Agreement, 1st round!) . While the stakes are important to the British government, Washington does not seem to be in a hurry to implement this pact. Two points remain blocking for the United States:peace agreement in Northern Ireland, as well as the British Government's commitment toRights of WorkersLondon having signed agreements with countries that do not sufficiently respect certain workers' rights according to Washington.
If the bilateral trade agreement has not been concluded, discussions should continue. And while waiting, London has decided to conclude separate agreements directly with some 20 American states including Texas. The first eight to be signed could correspond to20% of the US economy. They could be born in the coming months and maximum by the end of the year. The aim is to remove barriers to trade and reduce costs to facilitate trade.
