The latest news from the EU regulation against deforestation!

The EU Regulation against Deforestation and Forest Degradation (RDEU) is being progressively implemented and the modalities for its implementation are being clarified. Economic actors must now prepare to integrate these new requirements in order to comply.

A review of recent developments in the EUDR, EU Regulation against Deforestation and Forest Degradation:

1. Date of application: the one-year postponement voted by Parliament.

In response to requests from some economic actors and EU Member States, as well as those from non-EU countries, who wanted an additional time to better prepare, the European Commission proposed in early October to postpone the entry into force of the EU RD.The European Parliament has just validated this proposal., today, Thursday 14 November 2024,This formalizes the postponement of the application of the regulations by one year.

Update:Parliament also proposedamendmentsto the text, in particular the addition of a new risk category country says « at no risk » which would add to the three already existing risk categories: low, standard and high. These amendments will still have to be studied and validated by the Commission before they are finally adopted.

2. FAQ and strategic directions

To clarify the scope and practical modalities of the EUDR, the European Commission published in early October, in English, strategic guidelines and an updated version of the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). These documents are now available in French and provide valuable information to help businesses understand and prepare for these regulations.

3. Rational due diligence registration tool: TRACES-NT

Since 6 November, operators can register in theTRACES-NT information systemto deposit theirStatement of due diligenceA user manual in Frenchis available to support companies in this process.

4. Training sessions on the new information system

The Commission also organized several training sessions for the TRACES-NT information system. Since the first sessions are already complete, other dates are expected to be added shortly. Stay tuned to upcoming announcements so you don't miss out on these training opportunities!
