China import: tighter controls for masks and PPE

In order to ensure the quality of masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) exported from China, the Chinese government has implemented quality controls at the outset.

Faced with the exponential growth in demand for masks and other medical equipment, many Chinese factories have started producing them.

However, since these goods are intended for medical and personal protection, strict manufacturing standards to be met.

In order to contain the dispatch of non-compliant products, the Chinese government has ordered since 10/04/2020 of the Export restrictions for masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE), by requesting that all goods be subject to a compulsory customs inspectionwith immediate effect.

For example, firms manufacturing PPE for export are required to provide additional documentation and undergo inspections.

The documents must prove that the products are registered for sale in China and that they also meet the regulatory standards applicable in the country of destination.

The following is a list of Chinese nomenclatures subject to these new controls:

  • Medical mask – 6307900010

  • Infrared Temperature Instrument – 9025199010
  • Respiratory apparatus – 9019200010 and 9019200090
  • Surgical hat – 6505009900
  • Medical glasses – 9004909000
  • Medical gloves – 3926201100, 3926201900, 4015110000 and 4015190000
  • Other medical protection articles – 6307909090, 3926909090 and 401699090
  • Surveillance device – 9018193010
  • Medical disinfectant towel – 3005901000 and 3005909000
  • Medical disinfectant – 3808940010
