US Sea freight: carryover of overload in US ports
After announcing the introduction of an overload for containers stored too long on the terminals, the two main U.S. ports on the west coast delayed its application until 22 November.
At the end of October, congestion The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach had indicated their willingness to set up a network of $100 surcharge, as from 1 November, for containers remaining more than a number of days on their terminals (cf. US shipping freight: overloading to come to decongest ports). The announcement had caused the shipping companies, freight forwarders and shippers to react strongly, which had been postponed until 15 November.
Finally, the two ports have just specified that they would delay the application of this overload until 22 November. The threat had the expected effect as the situation improved. For example, ports highlighted the progress made in the faster removal of containers and reported a 26% drop in cargo « Ageing ». The evolution will be carefully examined to determine the future of the measure.
