Swiss export: removal of customs duties on 01/01/2024

In October 2021, the law abolishing customs duties on imports into Switzerland had been approved (cf. Swiss export: removal of customs duties). According to the Swiss process, it was necessary to wait until the end of the referendum period before the Federal Council could decide on a date of entry into force (cf. Swiss export: postponing the abolition of customs duties).

In a communiqué issued on 2 February 2022, the Federal Council stated that no customs dutiesfrom industrial products from the1 January 2024. In addition, the Swiss Customs Tariff will be simplified.

As a reminder, this measure has been taken in order to enable domestic companies to reduce the price of their imports and thereby strengthen the competitiveness of the Swiss economy.
