Swiss export: the abolition of customs duties on industrial products is effective!
In Switzerland, the law abolishing customs duties on imports had been approved in October 2021 (cf.Swiss export: removal of customs duties). Following a number of adjustments, the Federal Council announced in February 2022 that tariffs on industrial products would be completely abolished as from 1 January 2022.andJanuary 2024 (cf.Swiss export: removal of customs duties on 01/01/2024and cf.Swiss export: simplification of the customs tariff and abolition of customs duties on industrial products).
It's done now! All industrial products, excluding agriculture and fishery products, from any third country, can now cross the Swiss border without the need to pay customs duties and declare preferential origin of the goods. However, this will be useful if one wishes to re-export a product to another country and take advantage of tariff preferences in the context of a combination of bilateral or diagonal origin (e.g. EU/Paneuromed Agreement).
In view of this development, the Swiss Customs Tariff has been simplified, subheadings have been removed, customs duties varying previously according to the weight of the goods. Onecorrelation tableand «Frequently Asked Questions» has been made available to operators by Swiss customs.
