Export United States: new additional duties on EU products

Over 15 years old, the Airbus grant file came back to the forefront in October.
On October 2, the World Trade Officer authorized the United States to tax up to $7.5 billion in European goods.
The following day, the US Trade Representative formalized the list of relevant nomenclatures subject to surtaxes effective October 18, 2019.
The list prepared since April (cf.United States / EU: resumption of commercial hostilities...) consists of different sections according to the applicable rates, the countries and the goods concerned.
- Aircraft manufactured in Germany, Spain, France or the United Kingdom will be subject to 10% additional customs duties.
- Many other products – coffee, olive, cheese, wine, textiles, books, etc. – will be subjected to a 25% surcharge.
The special feature of this measure is that, for certain goods, the only one or more countries can be targeted This is the case, for example, of the surtax on coffee, which will only concern products of German origin... whereas for oranges all the countries of the European Union are affected.
On the EU side, everyone obviously regrets this decision since the wish was to findan amicable agreement.
To date, no reprisals have been decided. However, the EU also lodged a complaint with the WTO concerning unlawful subsidies received by the US aircraft manufacturer.Boeingand the decision should be made in early 2020... Case to follow!
