China-EU: a new maritime route between Dalian and the European Union

The first direct shipping line between Dalian, northeast China, and several European ports, including Fos in France, was launched last week.

On 8 May, a container ship left the port of Dalian, towards the European Union, thus inaugurating the first direct route of container shipping between this Chinese port, located in Liaoning province, overlooking the Gulf of Korea, and the EU.

This new line, which includes eleven large container carriers with a respective capacity of 14,000 standard containers, will travel on the route of the marine silk of 21eand serve several European ports including Fos in France, Genoa, Gioia Tauro and La Spezia in Italy, or Barcelona in Spain, after a stop in Israel and Saudi Arabia.

This line should allow trade in products such as electrical machinery and equipment, automobiles and their spare parts, chemicals, minerals, instruments and meters, as well as food products such as cereals and frozen foods.

In total, the port of Dalian would operate 105 container routes, distributing over 300 ports in 160 countries around the world.
