China announced on Thursday that it was suspending all activities in the context of the strategic economic dialogue with Australia for an indefinite period.
The Strategic economic dialogue, established in 2014, aims to foster investment and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
The decision to suspend this scheme is a response to the cancellation of two agreements in connection with the project. « Belt and Road » by Canberra (cf.China / Australia: Resurgence of hostilities with refusal of silk roads), which China considers to be « an action imbued with the spirit of the cold war and ideological prejudices« .
A further deterioration in relations between the two countries which, for the time being, did not have a direct impact on the Australian economy but could provoke chain reactions: the Australian government has said that it could revoke the lease granted to a Chinese company for the port of Darwin...
