Algeria: modification of the list of products submitted to DAPS

On 21 April 2019, the Algerian government updated the list of goods subject to the provisional additional import safeguard duty (AIP), and reduced certain applicable rates.

On January 29, 2019, the Algerian government lifted the import ban on prohibited goods since the beginning of 2018... and subsequently introduced a new import tariff barrier: the provisional additional safeguard duty (SAP)(cf.Export Algeria: introduction of provisional additional safeguard duty).

A protectionist measure aimed at reducing Algeria's trade deficit by applying an additional customs duty rate (from 30% to 200%) on 1095 customs nomenclatures.

On 21 April, the Algerian Ministry of Commerce withdrew some 100 products from the list and lowered the maximum rate applicable to 120%..

Most excluded goods fall within the agri-food sector: fresh or chilled beef, dried fruit (peanuts, almonds...), dried fruit (dry grapes, prunes...).

The updated list was published in the Official Journal on 21/04/2019* with immediate application.

* We keep the current list of nomenclatures covered by the DAPS and the new rates applicable available to our subscribers on request.
