Vietnam: Changes to the rules for the labelling of goods
On December 9, Vietnam issued Decree No. 111/2021/ND-CP* which changes therules for the labelling of goods. The objective is twofold: to combat tax evasion and fraud and to force organisations trading with Hanoi to register anddetermine originof their products.
Labels must ensure accuracy, veracity and compliance with the legal provisions on the origin of the goods. Forproducts placed on the market, labelling must resume, in Vietnamesevarious information including:
- the name of the goods;
- origin of manufacture ;
- the name and address of the foreign manufacturer or the name of the foreign entity responsible for the import;
- the name and address of the importer.
At the time of import clearance, foreign language labelling is allowed by the authorities.
Goods intended forExportmust be marked in accordance with the regulations applicable in the countries to which they are sent. But exporters still have to comply with Vietnamese laws or international agreements signed by Vietnam concerning origin.
This Decree 111/2021, amending Decree No. 43/2017/Nю-CP on the regulation of product labelling, will enter into force on15 February 2022.
