Since his election, the U.S. President has sought to redress his trade balance by all means: questioning free trade agreements NAFTA, KORUS, withdrawal of TPP, setting up tariff barriers it all adorned with a profusion of tweets fustising its main trading partners...
Considering Chinese competition unfair (subsidy of companies for the program « Made in China 2025« non-open market, theft of intellectual property) andAs the country with which the American trade balance is the most deficit, China is in Trump's sights. Since the beginning of the year, there has been a threat of additional tariffs on the Middle Empire.
Yet in May a consensus had been reached: China was committed to increasing its American imports and opening its market. On the other hand, the United States abandoned the idea of further taxing Chinese products (cf. International atmosphere of May 2018)... This was simply to delay the deadline!
After starting the game last March against almost all its partners, including China, by imposing tariff barriers on steel and aluminum (cf.International atmosphere of June 2018On 15 June, the United States launched a second blow to China by announcing customs duties on imports of 25% of 818 products « Made in China »* as from 6 July 2018 Chapters 28, 40, 84 to 90 are concerned, specifically targeting program-related assets. « Made in China 2025 ». And an additional list of 284 products would already be ready in the White House drawers!
China is immediately on the net by publishing a list of 545 US products on the day.* Taxed at the same rate of 25% from... July 6. The main sectors targeted by Beijing are food and automotive, but of course a list of 111 additional products is kept in reserve!
