MEPs gave final agreement to the draft Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) between the European Union and Vietnam.
As mentioned in our article « EU/Vietnam: Free Trade Agreement soon validated by the European Parliament?« This agreement aims to phase out almost all customs duties and could enter into force during summer 2020.
In a separate vote, MEPs also approved an investment protection agreement to be ratified by all Member States' national parliaments.
These two agreements are«the most ambitious ever concluded with a developing country »said the European Commissioner for Trade.
It remains to be seen that the promises made by the Vietnamese government concerning the improvement of working conditions in factories will be concrete... (cf.EU FTA / Vietnam: free trade and CSR... the big gap?)
We will keep you informed as soon as we announcethe official date of entry into force of the Agreement.
