
Four years after the start of the first round of negotiations, the European Union and Mexico agreed to revise their bilateral trade agreement.
On 28 April, the European Union and Mexico finalized negotiations on the recasting of their free trade agreement.
The agreement is more global as it includesrules on sustainable development,clauses on investment protection and the opening up of public procurement.
It also contains provisions for Combating corruption and money laundering.
For trade, the Almost all goods will be exempt from customs duties and Customs procedures will be simplified.
Before the new version of the Agreement enters into force, there are still steps to be taken on the European side:
- Legal review of the agreement (under finalization);
- Translation into all European Union languages;
- Vote in the Council and the European Parliament.
