According to a press release from the International Labour Organization (ILO),the basic monthly salary of qualified sailorswill increase to 618 USD at 01/07/2019 (+4 USD/month), then to 625 USD on 01/01/2020 and to 641 dollars on 01/01/2021, which represents a cumulative increase of 4.5%.

The Maritime Labour Convention, known as the «Charter of the Rights of Seafarers»entered into force on 20 August 2013 and wasratifiedby 89 ILO Member States, representing more than 91% of the tonnage of the world merchant fleet.
