Maritime transport: global agreement on the regulation of CO2 emissions

International Maritime Organization (IMOThe European Council, which was composed of 173 member countries, met last week in London for thendCommittee on the Protection of the Marine Environment: At the end of this meeting, the commitment was made to reduce pollution by imposing a reduction of at least 40% of CO2 emissions by 2030, then 70% by 2050. The other objective is to reduce the total volume of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of at least 50% in 2050 compared to 2008.
Some states such as Saudi Arabia and the United States have been reluctant to negotiate. Conversely, some Pacific and EU countries were more ambitious and pushed for a 70% to 100% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050.
The road map signed, we must now look at the implementation of concrete actions and find alternatives to achieve the objectives set.... Few initiatives « Green » in this area still marginal: sailing, electric container carriers, wing traction, etc.
One might wonder what the impact will be for global trade players, since more 80% of world trade currently transit by sea.
