Transport Africa: Ethiopia – Djibouti open railway line
After four years of construction, Ethiopia inaugurated the railway line between Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Djibouti (Djibji), financed and built by China.
The Ethiopian capital is now about ten hours away from Djibouti, which, with its port infrastructure, is the main gateway (90% of imports) and exit of goods to/from the country.
This line is expected to increase the country's economic performance with considerable time savings but also connect Ethiopia to the rest of the continent in the long term via a large rail network in the east (Sudan, Kenya etc.) but also towards the west towards the Gulf of Guinea.
