Air transport: planes must go green!
The growth of air traffic forces the sector to find solutions to control its carbon footprint.
Air transport currently accounts for 2% of global CO2 emissions.
Despite increasing traffic, and unlike all other modes of transport, the sector is not subject to any carbon footprint obligations.
However, global agreements at the level ofICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) forecast carbon neutrality from 2020 onwards, and then split emissions by two in 2050.
To achieve these ambitious objectives, the fleet will need to be modernized with more efficient aircraft, and optimized traffic management (filling rates, flight frequency, etc.).
Finally, a compensation and carbon reduction scheme for international aviation (CORSIA system) is planned for 2021.
