The exit from the crisis of the VOCID-19 does not go unnoticed for international supply chains. They face, among other things, a sharp recovery in consumption.shortagesof components, materials,price increasesuncontrolled in international transport,extension of time limitsto transport their goods...

Faced with these problems, companies are seeking to reorganise themselves. The temptation ofrelocationIt seems utopian for many sectors: know-how has been lost, it takes time to repatriate them and build the necessary infrastructure. In addition, for some industries, with the cost of local labour, finished products would be sold at almost prohibitive prices for consumers.

Nevertheless, with the inevitableecological transitioninternational trade shouldregionalize. Production should be closer to the end consumer, with technologies such as 3D printing that will produce at a lower cost. Buyers should also seekProximity sourcingto reduce transport costs and reduce the carbon footprint (cf.VOCID-19 and Sourcing: the textile and clothing sector suffers double pain! ).

This crisis has shown that the "just in time" model is dangerous and needs to be diversified. Since then, companies have been working hard to rebuild their stock to avoid their production chain being blocked due to lack of materials and/or components and not being able to meet customer orders. They thus turn to the ‘just in case' model so that they are no longer caught up.
