CSR: ILO's first global study on workplace violence and harassment
According to the new ILO report, more than 743 million employees worldwide have already been subjected to violence or harassment at work.
Published on Monday 5 December, the new ILO (International Labour Organization) report entitled «Experience on violence and harassment at work: first global survey », shows the extent of violence and harassment at work, including its various forms, as well as the factors that muzzle victims and witnesses. According to the survey, the first in the world, more than one in five people in employment (about 23% or 743 million people) suffered violence or harassment at work, whether physical (8.5 per cent of employees), psychological (17.9 per cent of employees) or sexual (6.3 per cent of employees, mostly women). However, it remains difficult to measure the level of violence and harassment, with only half of the victims in the world having managed to free up their voices about what they have suffered.
In addition to solid data on this sensitive subject, the report also includes a series of recommendations, including the need to regularly collect data on violence and harassment at the workplace at the national, regional and international levels or to develop awareness in order to prevent and address this scourge.
