REACH: five new substances subject to authorisation
By a regulation published in the OJEU on 11 April, the European Commission addedfive new entries in the list of substances subject to authorisationAnnex XIV to REACH. This list now contains59 entries. The entry into force of this new Regulation has been in force since 1 January 1999.andMay 2022.
The substances newly included in Annex XIV will beprohibited from use on EU territory from 1 May 2025. Companies which are not in a position to replace them by that date will have to file aapplication fileat ECHA before 1 November 2023.
The five substances added to this update are:
- Tetraethyllead (or Tetraethyllead in French): toxic to reproduction category 1A, used mainly as an additive in fuels (today banned in fuels of road vehicles but still used in aviation in particular);
- 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)-4 »-(methylamino)trityl alcohol: carcinogen category 1B, used in inks;
- RP-HP: Endocrine disruptor for the environment, used in industrial greases and lubricants;
- DOTE: Category 1B reproductive toxicity, used as an additive in plastics (primary use) and as a reaction catalyst (minor use);
- DOTE and MOTE reaction mass: toxic to reproduction category 1B, used for the manufacture of plastic (polymers) and/or rubber products, as well as for the manufacture of chemical substances (as stabilizer and dye agent).
