Opening of suspensions and tariff quotas for 2025
As every year, the subject of autonomous suspensions and tariff quotas is updated for the new year. This applies to undertakings which manufacture on Community territory from raw materials or components which are not produced, or not in sufficient quantities, within the European Union. Enterprises are therefore obliged to import raw materials or components, often subject to customs duties.
It is in this context that the European Union proposes that the companies concerned apply for a tariff suspension to enable them to improve their competitiveness. Applications shall be framed in a specific timetable and forwarded directly to the European competent authority. After a detailed investigation and verification for several months, the EU may validate applications and open autonomous suspensions and tariff quotas which may be used by the undertakings concerned for up to five years.
The communication which has just been produced refers to the updates, creations and possibly abolitions of autonomous tariff suspensions and quotas for 2025.
