A few hours before the filing of the first MACF report, the European Commission has authorised an additional 30 days for companies that have failed to validate their declaration.
In view of the technical difficulties encountered on the European platform dedicated to MACF (Carbon Adjustment Mechanism at the Border), the European Commission has decided to grant aadditional 30 dayscompanies that could not have validated their quarterly carbon emissions report on time, i.e. by 31 January 2024 at the latest.
From 1andFebruary, a new feature will be added on the platform, allowing you to request a « Deferred submission » which will offer you 30 more days to send your report.Be careful, this feature will be accessible on the European portal, so it will be necessary in all cases to successfully connect to it in order to request the deadline.
No penalty will be applied to companies with technical difficulties. However, we strongly recommend that youmaintain proof of these difficulties.
If you do not encounter any technical problems, the official declaration date will of course remain 31 January 2024, knowing that during the transitional period it is possible to access and correct the first three reports MACF until 31 July 2024 (Regulation 2023/1773).
The authorities' communication is available at the following link:Technical problems related to the transitional register
