Morocco: Customs revenues reach a new record in 2018!
In 2018, Moroccan customs collected more than 100 billion dirhams of customs revenue (customs duties, domestic consumption tax, VAT)
The rise in ICT on tobacco contributed to this new revenue record, as did the revenue generated by customs duties which increased by more than 12%.
This increase is partly due to the establishment in 2018 of an anti-smuggling brigade throughout the country.
It carries out checks and seizures of goods. The national targeting unit collects different data and identifies inconsistencies, then checks are carried out ex post and may lead to litigation.
Finally, Moroccan customs pay particular attention to the declared customs value and the fight against reduced values: it is currently investigating a possible Royalties fraud.
The transition to dematerialisation of customs declarationsstarting on 1 January, should make it possible to further limit fraud. Can be a new record in 2019?
