MACF: Are you concerned? A tool to help you is now available!
Almost one year after the launch of the MACF Regulation, the European Commission is putting in place a tool to help importers determine whether they are involved.
It has now been 11 months since the Regulation on the Carbon Adjustment at Frontiers Mechanism (CAFM) entered its transitional phase with the obligation to file quarterly emission reports. Many companies, which are not directly linked to the polluting sectors, still feel that they are not covered by this regulation.
Unfortunately, as the product scope is very broad, any importer must verify whether these flows fall within the scope of regulation. Indeed, you may be concerned even if you import small finished aluminum or steel items such as, for example, key doors, trash, some decorative or gardening objects, etc.
On Monday 23 September, the European Commission posted onits dedicated pagean Excel file calledCBAM self-assessment tool, which allows you to check whether your products are impacted by indicating their customs nomenclatures, their origins and their values. The tool provides information on what emissions should be reported and what information should be requested from suppliers.
If you are still in doubt, do not hesitate to test this tool, knowing that it is only a help; the Commission states that in no case does it have a guarantee value vis-à-vis regulation but it has the benefit of existing and, perhaps, reassurance.
