MACF/CBAM: Will your imports be affected as of January 1, 2026?

The European Commission reports at the end of the year on the most important deadline for customs clearance for certain sectors and helps companies to verify whether they will be covered by the Carbon Adjustment at Frontiers Mechanism (MACF/CBAM) as of 1 January.

Who's involved?

Enterprises importing products from sectors

  • fertilizers
  • Of steel and aluminium
  • Cement
  • and hydrogen or electricity.

At a time when many importers are still asking about their obligations, the European Commission provides a practical guide in the form of a simplified synoptic, downloadable here,to help them verify whether they are concerned.

As a reminder, importers who have not yet filed an application must act promptly to avoid any risk of disruption, delay or penalty. Applications must be lodged before importation and, at the latest, the 31 March 2026 for all the undertakings concerned.
