MACF: improvements to the platform and new glossary to clarify it
In view of the difficulties encountered in entering data from the MACF quarterly report, the European Commission has published a glossary to solve the error messages. Computer bugs have been listed and some have already been solved.
Like any new system in place, the European declaration platformMACF, Carbon Adjustment Mechanism at the Border(in English,CBAM, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) encounters multiple technical incidents. In practice, as they entered information about their first quarterly carbon emissions report, many users found themselves facing computer bugs or error messages that were not always easy to decrypt, preventing them from entering correctly or validating their declaration.
In order to tackle the various problems, the European Commission published on 20 February the «List of IT Changes & Unknown Errors », list of computer changes and errors identified and reported by theCompetent national authorities(ANC) of the 27 Member States following user alerts. This list is in excel format and allows you to view all bugs and progress in their resolution.
A few days earlier, on February 15, aglossary of error messageswhere the inserted data are not the expected format, had already been inserted into the documentCBAM Quarterly Report structure(in French, MACF Quarterly Report Structure), made available to MACF registrants to facilitate the preparation of their report. The glossary of error messages can be found in the tab « Error glossary messages » of this Excel file. It lists messages, explains what is expected by the tool (data format, mandatory fields, etc.) or reports inconsistencies, and thus solves many questions.
It should also be noted thatpatcheshave already been brought to several computer bugs on 15 and 16 February. Others are under development, with production scheduled today and tomorrow, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 February 2024. You can find the details of these fixes and improvements on thisscheduleon 15 February.
Valuable and extensive information is available on theweb pageEuropean Commission dedicated to MACF/CBAM.
It should be noted that the deadline for the first quarterly carbon report is fast approaching. This deadline, which had been staggered by 30 days in extremis at the end of January for companies which were unable to validate their declaration in time for technical reasons (cf.Carbon Adjustment Mechanism at Frontiers: 30 days delay possible to send your quarterly report), is now fixed at28 February 2024. Wait more to declare or get your support!
