EU publishes consolidated list of classification notices
Customs classification for one or more products may be formally requested from customs. In order to do so, it is necessary to complete requests for binding Tariff Information (RTC) in a dematerialized manner. Since the end of 2024, they have been operating on the European Binding Tariff Information (EBTI). However, for the time being, it is always the respective administrations of the Member States where the applicants are located that support the RTCs (cf. RTC: applications to be submitted in the European tool from 15 October!).
In this way, replies from different member countries for the same product may present different answers. Where this is the case, the TARIC commission is seized and formally issues, through a Community regulation, a uniform response applicable throughout the Community. These publications are called « Classification notices » and published by the Official Journal of the European Communities (JEU).
The latest update by the World Organisation for Customs of the Harmonized System in 2022 and the successive annual updates of the nomenclatures combined by the EU render certain notices of classification invalid.
For the first time, the EU has just made available the consolidated list of classification notices Taking into account the latest updates to the nomenclatures.
This list is an important new search base to help you determine the customs classification of your products, a valuable tool that has been lacking so far.
