Logistics Africa: towards a single airspace (MUTAA – SAATM)

On 28 January 2018, as part of the 30th African Union Summit, 23 African states approved the establishment of a Single Air Transport Market in Africa (MUTAA).

The aim is to create the equivalent of the single European sky and to encourage trade between the countries of the continent.

Airlines from the following 23 signatory countries may operate freely in the other signatory countries:

Benin, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Togo and Zimbabwe.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed this major breakthrough in international air transport.

32 African Union member countries have not yet agreed to this project initiated more than 20 years ago.
