Georgia joins the Common Transit Convention
In December 2024, the European Commission confirmed Georgia's accession to the Common Transit Convention and the Convention on the Simplification of formalities in trade in goods.
By acceding to these conventions, Georgia becomes the ninth non-EU country to be part of the network aimed at facilitating the movement of goods across borders.
As a reminder, thegroup transittoday the following countries:EU, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The movement of goods in this network is facilitated by traffic documents/titles which allow carriers to travel directly to customs offices at destination, without carrying out customs stops at the different borders crossed, all under cover of guarantees to guarantee the duties and taxes of the goods transported. Georgia enters the system and can take advantage of the two options:
- T2 internal transit for Community goods moving to Georgia,
- T1 external transit for third-party goods moving from or to Georgia.
