What are the main measures of the JEFTA (Japan-EU free trade agreement), one of the most important trade agreements ever signed by the European Union (cf. Actuality of12/12/2017) ?

Gradual elimination of customs duties on more than 97% of products.
For example, those currently applied to the chemical, cosmetic or textile/clothing sectors will be completely dismantled with the agreement. Estimated potential impact on Customs invoice of Japanese importers EUR 1 billion per year! - Removal of import quotas: as soon as the agreement enters into force, e.g. for leather and footwear.
- Matching European and Japanese standardsThis will facilitate market access, particularly in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors.
Llabelling of textile articles will also be harmonised. - Recognition of more than 200 IGPsA real market for the European agri-food industry.
- Opening of public procurementThe Japanese railway or hospital sectors or Japanese universities, currently reserved for national companies, will be more accessible to Europeans.
It should also be noted that this is the first international trade agreement incorporating the concept of combating climate changeby promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, recycling, fair trade, etc.
