Israel: The fur trade will soon be banned!
On Wednesday, 9 June, Israel, by ministerial decree, prohibitedfur trade in clothing. The regulations will come into force in 6 months.
By 1976, Israel had already prohibited the breeding of animals for their fur. Today is the1andcountries in the world to take such actionin the name of animal suffering and respect forenvironmental standards.
The animal fur trade,import and exportwill therefore be prohibited except for the needs of research, teaching andcertain religious traditionsThe legislation still allows for the importation of shtreimels, zibeline fur hats and foxes, which make up the majority of the furs carried in Israel.
Importers will have to requestSpecial permitsissued by the Director of the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority.
Several countries around the world have already introducedpartial prohibitionsof fur trade, especially for endangered species such as seals. India has banned total trade throughout the country, but only for a few species such as mink, fox or chinchilla.
The total ban is only in force in certain cities such as Sao Paulo in Brazil, or in the state of California in the United States (cf.United States: Bill to Ban the Sale of Fur Goods).
In France, the fur industry, from livestock to retail, represents a turnover of EUR 300 million.1/3 export, a constant increase over the last five years.
