US import: towards an increase in customs duties?
As soon as Donald Trump returned to power, he re-launched his protectionist trade policy. The 47th President has already announced additional import taxes for Mexico, Canada and China, and threatened the European Union.
Barely arrived at the White House on Monday, January 20, the 47th President of the United States relaunched his protectionist speech by announcing an additional 25% increase in customs duties on Canadian and Mexican products from February 1. The next day Donald Trump entrusted the press with working on a 10% increase in customs duties on Chinese products, also starting on 1 February.
Threats against the European Union have also been made. For Donald Trump, Brussels does not sufficiently open its market to American products, especially cars and agricultural products. To restore trade balance, it would not be impossible for it to decide to increase import taxes on EU products.
The U.S. President also threatened the BRICS with a 100 per cent increase in tariffs if this organization ventured to create a currency to compete with the U.S. dollar.
However, as we write these lines, no decree has yet formalized these various statements.
