Shipping freight: new ONE alliance of 3 Japanese shipowners within THE Alliance

The Japanese shipping companies Mitsui OSK Line (Mol), Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K-Line) have announced the formation of a joint venture called Ocean Network Express (ONE).

The new structure common to the three Japanese shipowners is expected to be operational by 1 April 2018.

With a combined capacity of 7.2% of the world supply (1,459 million TEUs), ONE will position itself directly in the 6th place of the world shipping.

MOL, NYK, and K-Line will pool their resources within the THE Alliance maritime alliance, in partnership with the other two shipowners Hapag Lloyd and Yang Ming.

THE Alliance will total 33 scheduled maritime services in 2018, including 8 between Asia and Europe (including 3 routes on the Mediterranean area), which will serve 81 major ports in total.
