Brazil export: revision of customs import duties

Since the end of June, Brazil has taken six measures that have an impact on import tariffs.

On 28 June, with resolutions 44 and 45, Brazil eliminated tariffs to:

  • 28 IT and telecommunications products
  • 385 capital goods.

With resolution 46,import duties have been modified on different productseither by adding or excluding them from the list of exceptions to Common external tariff of MERCOSUR

Resolutions 43 and 48 have enabled Brazil to establish tariff quotas for certain products : Acrylic/modacrylic filament cables, certain polyester yarns, breast milk... The customs duty rate of only 2% applies for a given quantity of products, while the rates excluding tariff quotas range from 10 to 18%.

These measures entered into force on 1 July and will apply until 31 December 2019

Finally, on 23 July, measure 49 allowed elimination of customs duties for lithium ion electric accumulators and firefighting vehicles, temporary application until end of December 2018

All these measures aim to remedy the lack of domestic production.
