United States: Bill to prohibit the sale of fur goods
California is studying Bill AB-44, which would prohibit the manufacture and sale of fur goods.
American cities such as San Francisco, West Hollywood have already banned the sale of fur goods (cf.Mode – Clothing: the fur item hunt is open!). But if the text were adopted, California would be the first American state to take such action.
This law would prohibit the manufacture and sale of any clothing or protective item covering any part of the body, or any fashion accessory, including handbags, shoes, slippers, hats, eargear, scarves, shawls, gloves, jewellery and keyrings, which would consist of some or all fur. Violators of this prohibition would be liable to fines and/or penalties.
We remain vigilant on this matter and will keep you informed in case of promulgation on the precise modalities.
To export to the United States, it is important to check federal law in order to comply with it. It is also necessary to monitor the law applicable in each State, as it may be even more binding.
