United States / China: Rebounding in Trade War

Wishing to increase the pressure on trade negotiations with China, the US President tweeted Sunday, May 5th that additional tariffs on products originating in China could increase from 10 to 25% as of Friday, May 10th, 2019.

Against all odds, Trump created a turnaround in the Sino-American trade war by saying that he wanted to raise the additional taxes from 10 to 25%. This increase initially planned for 1 January 2019 has been postponed twice (cf.United States / China: further postponement of US tariff increases on Chinese products) in order to find an agreement.

Considering that negotiations take too long and do not succeed, Trump decided to put pressure by brandishing this threat. Not sure that the next meeting between the two countries scheduled Wednesday 8 May is very serene after this announcement.

It should be noted that it is still necessary to wait for the communiqué of the US Ministry of Commerce to make this increase official: the publication should arrive in the next few months days.
