EU Customs classification: Combined Nomenclature (TARIC) updates on 01/01/2020

The World Customs Organization (WCO) publishes every 5 years an overall revision of the international customs nomenclature or Harmonized system (HS code 6 digits).
For its part, the EU updates the EU codes once or twice a year. European Union Integrated Tariff (TARIC), specific 10-digit nomenclatures (SH6 + 4), with possible ad hoc changes during the year.

Following the last update published in the Official Journal of the EU on 31 October, 47 new Community nomenclatureshave been added to TARIC codes for five industrial sectors:
- Fat-based powders (food preparations): 1
- Spirit drinks: 7
- Petroleum or bituminous mineral oils: 5
- Chemical preparations for photographic uses: 1
- Synthetic or reconstituted stones: 4
- Information technology products covered by ATI2* : 29
Some changes / deletions have also been introduced to clarify or update certain Tariff subheadings in the following chapters:
- 1901: Malt extracts; food preparations of flours [...]
- 3926: Other articles of plastics [...]
- 7307: Pipe fittings [...] and 7325: Other cast articles of iron or steel [...]
- 8536: Apparatus for cutting, cutting, ... electrical circuits [...]
Finally, Text adjustments to clarify certain points concerning:
- Pharmaceuticals: rectification of the name or classification of certain substances;
- Whey permeates: interpretation of lactate content;
- Fruit juices, mixtures of odoriferous substances and watch boxes: creation of an additional unit;
- Tanned hides and skins: alignment of the different language versions of the wording of certain subheadings.
