Negotiations on EU exit conditions vis-à-vis the common market have just begun and should last at least two years. In the meantime, the customs administrations of the other 27 Member States are already anticipating the customs consequences of this division...
The European Union is consideringre-establish import and export customs declarations for cross-border trade with the United Kingdom(England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland): this would amount to 2 to 3 million operations per year... just for France!
First consequence for the French customs administration, the DELT tool@ will have to be revised as it does not currently have the capacity to absorb such an increase in the number of declarations.
At the procedural level, theCustoms transitwill be reinstated for all customs transfers, and theICS security procedure(Import Control System) will become applicable to trade with the United Kingdom.
Finally, customs personnel will have to be redeployed in order for the administration to be able to manage and effectively control these flows.
