BREXIT: forecast calendar until 2021

On 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom launched the exit procedure from the European Union (Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty): more than a year before the application of the BREXIT!

2018 :
- 28-29 June: A European summit to be held in Brussels will have to assess whether the border problem between the British province of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is resolved

18 and 19 October: A European Summit in Brussels to concluding the negotiations and to reach an agreement on the organisation of the « divorce » and the transition period.
A political declaration without legal value will define the framework for the future relationship validated by the EU Member States, the European Parliament and the UK Parliament
2019 :

29 March: D-day of Brexit. The UK comes out of the EU and becomes a third country!
Start of transition period during which the European rules will still be in force in the United Kingdom. The UK will be able to formally start trade negotiations with countries outside the EU.
2020 :
- 31 December: End of transition period.
2021 :
- 1and January: entry into force of the new EU/UK agreement, which must have been validated by all EU national parliaments. The United Kingdom may also conclude trade agreements with other third countries
