Americas & Caribbean: WCO promotes the Data Model
On 8 June 2018, the World Customs Organization (WCO) organized a regional workshop on the Data Model for the Americas and Caribbean Region in Lima, Peru.
The WCO Data Model is a standardized and harmonised data set meeting the procedural and legal requirements of customs administrations in charge of regulating cross-border flows of import/transit/export.
The workshop included an explanation of the WCO data model and the benefits it offers, such as the establishment of asimplified cross-border regulatory procedurestransparent and predictable.
Mr. Gustavo Romero, Head of the Peruvian Tax and Customs Administration, explained that digital transformation based on information and communication technologies was a mandatory requirement for the modernization and processing of customs.
Another highlight of the workshop was a session of two guest speakers from theUS Customs and Border Protectionand the Uruguayan Customs Administration: in their presentation, speakers presented perspectives on the implementation of the WCO data model at the national level in theUS Single Window, and at regional level inMercosur Indira Interconnectionfor the exchange of common data on the customs declaration.
