ALGERIA: New list of products banned from import

The new Executive Decree No. 18-139 dated 21 May temporarily prohibits the importation of 877 products into Algerian territory.

After publishing a first list at the beginning of the year (cf. Current January 2018) and made minor changes in the following months (see March and April 2018, the Algerian government, confirms its protectionist policy by modifying its list of products prohibited for import into Algeria.

The products covered remain substantially the same: the decree detailing the list of customs nomenclatures concerned can be consulted by clicking on this link.

NB: the goods concerned which were shipped or domiciled in Algeria before the publication of the decree in the Algerian Official Journal (23/05/2018) are not affected by this prohibition.

In its supplementary finance bill, the Algerian Government intends to replace these prohibitions with a tax, called provisional additional safeguard duty, the rate of which would vary between 30 and 200%...
