ALGERIA: introduction of an additional safeguard right in September 2018

Following the supplementary finance law of 2018, the Algerian government will introduce a provisional additional safeguard duty (DAPS) to be applied on imported goods. The rate could range from 30 to 200%.

After banning the import of about 1,000 products at the beginning of the year, Algeria wishes to allow them again, provided they are subject to an additional customs duty of up to 200%!

Meetings between importers from the various sectors concerned and the Ministry of Trade were held in July to jointly determine the list of products to be imposed. According to a Minister's statement, this list should be finalized and published for implementation in early September.
