REACH alert: 1 new SVHC substance added to the candidate list!
On 10/07/2017, the ECHA added the « Perfluorohexane-1-sulfonic acid and its salts (PFHxS) » the list of SVHC candidates for prohibition in the EU.
Classed vPvB (very persistent and bioaccumulative), this substance is part of the PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) family, which has been restricted for PFOAs, particularly used as waterproofers in clothing.
The purpose of inclusion is to avoid the massive use of PFHxS in substitution while its toxic assessment is not yet finalized.
PFHxS are present in plasticizers, lubricants, surfactants, anti-rust surface treatment products, and flame retardants.
It is now necessary to check the concentration rate of this substance in your articles, and to inform your distributors or respond to consumer requests, if it exceeds 0.1% per part of the article.
