EU FTA / India: Trade negotiations resume
On Saturday 8 May 2021, the European Union and India decided to resume negotiations on afree trade agreement(FTA) and to cooperate more to combat climate change.
As a major producer of vaccines, the two blocs also intend to join forces in the health field, particularly in the face of future pandemics, while India is currently experiencing an outbreak of the VOCID-19 epidemic.
No timetable has yet been set for these talks, which had already been initiated in the past, but frozen in 2013 due to disagreements on thereduction in customs dutiesorPatent protection.
At the same time, discussions will also be held on the protection of investment and the environment.intellectual property rightsforlimit counterfeiting.
Brussels and New Delhi also want to develop togetherinfrastructure projectsin Africa, Central Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
The European Union and India also intend to strengthen their cooperation in the field ofconnectivity sustainable. For the EU, this would be the 2epartnership in this area, after the one signed with Japan in September 2019.
