The free trade agreement between the Philippines and the EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland) covers many sectors and liberalises trade in goods and services.
ATTENTION :
- Because of internal procedures, it is not yet applicable to Philippines !
- LIceland is not part of the free trade agreement: only Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are involved.
This agreement covers all areas: trade in goods, services, trade facilitation, phytosanitary measures, investment, protection of intellectual property rights, public procurement and the Sustainable Development.
It allows for the immediate elimination of customs duties for certain agricultural products, and a gradual reduction for agricultural products. Industrial products.
This agreement is expected to intensify relatively low trade: the Philippines is in fact the sixth largest EFTA trading partner in South-East Asia...
EFTA countries will have privileged access to a potential market of over 100 million consumers. With only 13 million inhabitants, they offer only a small market with very high purchasing power.
RECALL EFTA was established in 1960 to establish close relations with the European Union without entering the EU. Since 1990 it has been developing agreements with other third countries. The inter-governmental organization has since signed 27 free trade agreements covering 38 countries such as Canada, Mexico, Ukraine or Singapore... Negotiations are under way with Mercosur, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Vietnam.
